Walk-A-Thon is This Friday, 9/30! It's almost here...our Fouse Walk-A-Thon is next Friday, 9/30! Thanks to your generosity, we have currently raised $11,560, more than halfway to our goal of $20,000 and we still have a week to go! All donations are very much appreciated and if you have one you have not yet submitted, we encourage you to do so early this week! The drawing for the iPad Mini will take place on Friday AM, so we ask that your donations are submitted by Thursday, 9/29, so that we can ensure all students who donated $100 or more are included! We would like to thank the following businesses who have kindly donated to date:
Details on the Walk-a-Thon were sent home with your student(s) on Friday, August 26th. If you have not already done so, we encourage you to read through the two letters inside the envelope that was sent home; copies of those letters, as well as the donation tracking sheet which is stapled to the envelope you received, are also attached to this email for your reference. The following classes are in currently in the lead with the most class participation...the prize is a donut party: 1. Kahler - 59% 2. Kellogg - 56% 3. Butler - 50% And these classes are in the lead with the highest dollar amount in donations collected so far...the prize is a pizza party: 1. Johnston - $940.10 2. Kellogg - $910.38 3. Wagner - 810.35 If you would like, donations may also be made online via PayPal. It's a great way for family and friends who live out of town to help contribute to this great cause! If you choose to donate electronically, please ensure that your child's name and their teacher's name is noted so that they receive credit toward any prizes that they may earn. http://fousepto.weebly.com/walk-a-thon.html Calling all volunteers!!! We need volunteers to help out in 1-hour shifts between 10:30am and 2:30pm. The job is easy, fun and won’t take too much of your day. Volunteer shifts include decorating, being available for first aid, distributing popsicles, greeting/directing parents and walking classes to and from the track. You can even sign up to be the Fouse Fox, our mascot! Your children have worked very hard to raise money for their school and this Walk is their reward: a chance for them to celebrate their fundraising efforts. If you’re coming to walk with their child, maybe sign up to help for that grade. Here is the approximate schedule of when each grade will be walking:
We also encourage you to join the Walk-a-Thon event on Facebook! https://www.facebook.com/events/996177783813219/ If you have any questions, please contact Stephanie Dawson at [email protected]. "The Leader in Me" Update Thanks very much to those of you who were able to join us last Wednesday night to learn more information about this program. We received a great deal of positive feedback from those who attended. Mr. Stranges and staff are excited about the value this initiative will bring to the students at Fouse. They are continuing to work with the Covey organization on final implementation plans. We will share all plans when they are set! Issue 59 In just 6 weeks, voters will decide the future for Westerville Schools. Issue 59 is a NO NEW TAX permanent levy that actually extends the life of the 5-year emergency levy that was approved in 2012. Over these next few weeks, we will pass along any information to you that we receive from the following groups:
Classroom Parties - Communication & Planning On Friday, September 23rd, a letter with details about this year's Classroom Parties was sent home in your child's backpack. The lead room parents for your class will be in contact with parents soon to get the planning started for our first party of the year, the Fall Harvest Party, which is on Friday, October 14th. A copy of the letter that was sent home is also attached to this email for your reference. Pancake Breakfast - Drawing Contest Entries Due 10/5 Attention, Fouse Foxes…let’s see your artwork! On Friday, students were sent home with an entry flier for our Pancake Breakfast Drawing Contest! Students are encouraged to draw a picture that they think best represents Fouse’s Pancake Breakfast and/or the Fall season. Entries are due Wednesday, October 5th and the winner of the contest will be announced on Friday, October 7th. The winning drawing(s) will be featured on this year’s Pancake Breakfast flier. A copy of the contest entry flier is attached for your reference. Fall Book Fair - Volunteers Needed Our Fall Book Fair is quickly approaching and it's time to start gathering volunteers! The Book Fair will take place Monday, October 24th through Thursday, October 27th, during the week of conferences. The operation and success of our Book Fair is totally dependent on volunteer participation. If you are able to assist us, please use this link to sign up for a shift: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b49a4af29a75-october/. Watering New Trees on the Playground - Volunteers Needed As you may know, the PTO was able to purchase 7 shade trees for the playground last year! These trees are still new and need weekly watering. It can be a lengthy task (an estimated 2-3 hours each week) but well worth it for the years of shade and enjoyment that it will bring our students! When volunteering, you are welcome to bring your children and pets to play and run around. If any of your or your family members are interested in helping, we would truly appreciate it! Hand Sanitizer Donations Requested Our lunch/recess schedules have been adjusted slightly this year and some grades now go to recess first and then come in for lunch after. This means that they class doesn’t have the opportunity to wash hands before they eat. Thankfully, our Duty Aides have been on top of our students' safety, health and well-being and have been hand sanitizing the kids. In order to keep this going throughout the year, we’d like to ask families to donate large bottles of hand sanitizer. If you would like to donate, please send in hand sanitizer with your student; they are asked drop it off in the office. Thanks very much for your help with this! Help Wanted: Library Volunteers Library volunteers are critical to helping all of our Fouse students have a positive experience in our library. The library is open on A, B, D and F days. Library volunteers can choose which days they want to help. They are not required to commit to any specific schedule and background checks are not required. If you are available to help in the library, please use this link to sign up for specific day(s) and time(s): http://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040c4aafa728a64-sign Please contact our Media Specialist, Mrs. Meta, at [email protected], with any questions. Fundraising Event for McVay Elementary Student - 4 Paws for Joey On Sunday, October 2nd, a fundraiser will be head for Joey, an 11-year old who attends McVay Elementary. Joey is in need of a service dog as his lifeline. Joey's dog will alert when he is having a seizure, detect an oncoming seizure and will also be a comforting companion for Joey's anxiety and other challenges with autism. The event will be held at Westerville South High School from 3-6pm. More details about the event are provided on the attached flyer.
